This antique Victorian sterling silver shoe pin cushion by Saunders & Shepherd, London 1882 is a charming and highly collectible example of late 19th century novelty silverware. The piece is beautifully formed as an elegant heeled shoe with ornate bright-cut style decoration across the upper and a raised bow detail to the front, retaining its original purple velvet cushion insert. Hallmarked for London 1882 with the maker’s marks of Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings Shepherd, one of the leading makers of Victorian novelty silver items. The shoe stands on a shaped heel and displays wonderfully on account of its refined proportions and detailed craftsmanship. Weighs approximately 14.7g and remains in very good antique condition with only light age-related wear and minor rubbing consistent with age and careful use. A superb piece of Victorian sewing interest and an increasingly desirable antique silver novelty item.
