Vintage Gubelin Swiss World Time Pocket Watch Travel Clock c1950. An unusual and attractive vintage Swiss mechanical world time pocket watch by the prestigious jewellers and watchmakers Gubelin, dating from around the 1950s. The gilt metal case features a manually rotating outer bezel engraved with cities around the world, together with a 24-hour scale for calculating international time differences. The silvered dial has applied gilt baton hour markers and matching hands, whilst the reverse has a decorative engine-turned central cover and hinged folding stand, allowing the watch to be used as a travelling desk clock. Complete with its period suede-style drawstring pouch. The watch winds and runs well and has been tested over an extended period, during which it has kept very good time. Condition is good overall for age, although there is noticeable staining and discolouration to the dial, particularly around the hour markers, together with general wear and rubbing to the gilt finish. The folding stand is complete but the hinge has become loose and does not currently support the weight of the watch when displayed upright. An interesting and collectable example of mid-20th century Swiss watchmaking. Please see photographs for further details and condition.
